Custom cPanel Theme Update

Posted on: November 25th, 2011

Received a decent update on our custom cPanel skin today so thought I’d share. Cpanel has become the most popular control panel software in recent years as it was always ahead om features and their support has always been excellent and free. Another reason for their success is the ease of integrating systems via plugins and also ease of skinning. However, in a decade I have not come across a skin that blows my mind away. The interface on all commercially available skins is similar and the feel is the same simple cPanel. Personally I’ve always loved Plesk and especially like the Plesk layout and having one control panel to do everything (i.e. no WHM). So I set out to make a Plesk inspired cPanel skin and where it actually looks nothing like Plesk it does have two columns of icon features sections like Plesk (compared to the one on most cPanel skins.

Here is where we are at so far:

There will be further edits and this is not the finished product but most of the functionality is there. The sidebar menu is expandable (and 2-3 new sidebar sections will be added). All feature sections expand to show all icons in a section. For aesthetics we are just displaying 4 per section so everything gets “above the fold” on a standard 1024×768 resolution (no more huge scrolling to get where you want. All sections can be moved around to your liking as can the sidebar navigation.

At the top the skin will pull stats for Space and Bandwidth as is normal anmd also CPU and Memory Use which are stats from CloudLinux. Still more work to be done here but as you can see it’s going to be an awesome theme.
